Tsarskoye Selo in autumn: the Catherine Palace without the queue

Here is the mistake almost everyone makes at Tsarskoye Selo. You arrive at the Catherine Palace at midday, see a queue along the facade and join it — only to learn it is for people who already hold timed tickets, and nothing is left for today.

Tickets are sold online in timed slots and go on sale exactly seven days before the date of your visit. That is the whole trick.

The numbers

Getting in without the queue

Unsold tickets for the current day go to the office by the Lyceum Arch. Do not head for the Golden Gates on the Parade Ground — those are for pre-booked tour groups only.

Tickets are personalised: you need the original of your ID to collect them, and no more than five are sold per person. There is also an open-date ticket at 3,000 ₽, sold only at the Lyceum Arch office and valid until 30 December 2026.

The Amber Room is part of Route 1 — there is no separate ticket for it. A Russian-language group tour is included in the price. And the museum warns it works with no online ticket resellers at all: buy at tkt.tzar.ru or at its own offices.

What autumn changes

The palace keeps its summer hours. The park does not.

SummerFrom 1 September
Catherine Park7:00–22:00 (20 April – 31 August)7:00–21:00 (until 19 April)
Park toiletsfree 20 April – 18 October50 ₽ at weekends from 19 October
30-visit season pass4,500 ₽off sale after 19 September

Park entry on its own is 400 ₽, reduced 300 ₽, free for under-14s every day — and free for everyone from 7:00 to 9:00 and from 19:00 until closing. There are five gates.

Getting there

The estate is 25 km south of St Petersburg, at 7 Sadovaya Street in Pushkin. From Kupchino metro, buses 186 and 342 run to the "Sadovaya Street — Catherine Palace" stop; from Moskovskaya, bus 299. Trains leave Vitebsky station for Tsarskoye Selo, a 25–30 minute walk away.

If the palace is sold out, the Alexander Palace nearby costs 800 ₽ and keeps the same hours, but closes on Wednesdays. Lift works run there until 22 December, so it is not accessible to wheelchair users or visitors with prams.
