In October 2026 builders began dismantling tunnel sections at the future Bogatyrskaya station, using the 'diaphragm wall' method — an approach suited to St. Petersburg's notoriously complex, waterlogged ground. This marks a new phase of active construction, though no official opening date has been set.
Where Bogatyrskaya will be
The station is on Bogatyrsky Prospekt in the Primorsky district — an extension of the green (Nevsko-Vasileostrovskaya) line beyond the current terminus at Begovaya. Primorsky is one of the most actively developed residential areas in St. Petersburg in recent years; the new station will significantly improve its transport links.
Getting to Primorsky district now
From Komendantsky Prospekt (blue line): the best option for most addresses. Several bus and minibus routes fan out through the district. Check exact connections on Yandex Maps for your specific address.
From Staraya Derevnya (purple line): convenient for addresses in the western part of the district, closer to the Central Park of Culture.
By car: Bogatyrsky Prospekt and Komendantsky Prospekt are the main roads. Allow extra time during rush hour.
Arriving from Pulkovo Airport with luggage? Book a transfer to your address — more straightforward than navigating connections with bags.
What the diaphragm wall method means
The diaphragm wall technique creates a continuous concrete wall around the perimeter of the future structure before excavation begins. It holds back both soil and groundwater — essential in a city built largely on marshland. Dismantling the temporary tunnel sections is the transition from retaining structure to permanent construction work inside.
Not suitable for
If you need a confirmed opening date — it doesn't exist yet. Monitor official updates at metro.spb.ru.
Checked: 26 October 2026
Metro construction updates are published on the official Saint Petersburg Metro website. When the station opens, it will be the first new metro stop in the Primorsky district in decades, cutting travel time to the city centre by 15 to 20 minutes for tens of thousands of residents. Opening day for a new Saint Petersburg metro station is itself worth experiencing.
