Autumn Peterhof is a different place from the summer tourist flood. Fountains run until mid-October (the Grand Cascade closing date is announced in September), the park empties, and the long formal parterres and distant pavilions become visible. It is the best month to walk the Lower Park without queues and enter the Grand Palace without the crowd.

💧 Fountains: closing date

The main Peterhof fountains run from April–May through mid-October. In 2026 closing was expected around 12–13 October, with a ceremonial shutdown at the Grand Cascade with music and lighting. After mid-October the fountains are off but the park is open — entrance becomes free, with separate tickets for pavilions and palaces.

🏛 The Grand Palace

The main route is Rastrelli's state suite: the Ballroom, Throne Room, Chesma Room and Portrait Hall. Tours run in groups by timed sessions — buy online at peterhofmuseum.ru in advance. In November the state rooms close for maintenance; check the schedule before you travel.

🌳 Monplaisir, Marly, Hermitage

The three small palaces of Peter I run reduced autumn hours. Monplaisir is Peter's favourite seaside residence with his original study and furniture. Marly is a symmetrical pavilion between two ponds. The Hermitage is a dining pavilion with a lifting table — dishes rose from below so staff would not interrupt guests.

Three main options: hydrofoil from the Hermitage or Arsenal Embankment pier (runs until late September–October, check schedule); suburban train from the Baltic Station to Novy Peterhof or Stary Peterhof (40 minutes, around 100 ₽); minibuses from Avtovo (401, 404). By car — the Ring Road and Peterhof Highway, 40–50 minutes. From central St Petersburg, a RideClu transfer works well — especially with children or in the shoulder season when hydrofoils no longer run.

🛏 Where to stay

If you stretch the trip over two days (both fountains and palaces), Stary Peterhof or near Oranienbaum is more comfortable than returning to the city — quieter and one step away from the next stop (Oranienbaum). Apartments and small hotels are bookable on Tutkakdoma.

🍲 Lunch

By the Lower Park exit (near the Upper Garden) the Shtandart cafe has a Grand Palace view. In Stary Peterhof, restaurants line the main avenue. If you prefer self-catering, pack a thermos and snacks — the park has benches with Gulf views.
