The Imperial Lyceum in Tsarskoye Selo is not a monument to Pushkin's poetry — it is the actual school where he studied from 1811 to 1817. The building sits right next to Catherine Palace in the town of Pushkin, about 25 km south of St Petersburg.
What to see inside
The museum occupies two floors. The third floor holds classrooms, a library and the assembly hall where the teenage Pushkin recited his poems. The fourth floor has the students' rooms — narrow cells separated by partitions that don't quite reach the ceiling. Pushkin's room is number 14.

Tickets and hours
Tickets are available at the entrance and online through the Tsarskoye Selo museum website. The museum is closed on Tuesdays and the last Friday of each month. Winter hours are shorter, so check the schedule before you go.
Getting there
The easiest route: commuter train from Vitebsky Station to Tsarskoye Selo, then a 15-minute walk. Minibuses run from Moskovskaya metro station and take 30–50 minutes depending on traffic.
If you'd like to combine the Lyceum with other sights around St Petersburg, you can choose an excursion.
Nearby
Catherine Palace and the Amber Room are next door but require a separate ticket. Catherine Park is free in the off-season. For lunch, try the cafés on Moskovskaya Street in Pushkin — better prices than the tourist spots near the palace.
Who should skip it
Anyone expecting an interactive, hands-on museum: this is a traditional exhibit behind glass. Small children may find it dull, and the narrow staircases make access difficult for visitors with limited mobility.
Good to know
Plan the Lyceum as the first stop of a half day in Pushkin. Trains from Vitebsky Station run regularly, but check the timetable for the return journey, as evening services thin out. Large bags may have to go into the cloakroom, and photography rules can vary by room, so ask the attendants. The staircases are narrow and can get crowded when groups arrive, so a weekday morning is the calmest time. Leave time for a walk through Catherine Park afterwards and dress warmly.
