The atrium of Lakhta Centre — St. Petersburg's 462-metre skyscraper — has a new exhibit: 'Third Nature' by international studio SPLACES. Entry to the atrium is free and the show runs until April 2027, making it a straightforward addition to any visit to the building.
About the exhibition
SPLACES is a studio working at the intersection of science, technology and art. 'Third Nature' explores how digital processes, algorithms and data interact with natural phenomena — the kind of project you'd find at major contemporary art venues in Moscow or internationally. The unusual setting, glass walls and views over the Gulf of Finland, gives the work a different context than a conventional gallery.
What else to do at Lakhta Centre
- Lakhta Horizon observation deck — at 360 metres, the highest in Russia. Book in advance; weekend slots sell out.
- Planetarium
- Educational centre with workshops
- Cafés and restaurants
Getting there
Metro Begovaya (green line terminus): the most straightforward option. From the station to Lakhta Centre: free shuttle (check times on lakhta.ru), 20–25-minute walk along the waterfront, or a local bus.
From the city centre: about 30 minutes by metro from Nevsky Prospekt.
Combining with other sights
Pair the exhibition with the observation deck in one visit: atrium during the day, then up to the top for the sunset. October–November sunsets over the Gulf come early — around 17:30–18:00.

Because entry to the atrium is free and the show runs all the way to April 2027, there's no need to rush it. If you're short on time, half an hour in the atrium is enough to get the idea; if the building and the views draw you in, you can easily spend a couple of hours between the exhibition, a café and the observation deck. On a clear late-autumn afternoon, timing the visit so you reach the top for sunset over the Gulf turns a quick stop into the highlight of the day.
