The Kirov Plant is one of St Petersburg's oldest factories, operating since 1801. It still manufactures tractors, gas turbines and power equipment — this is a working industrial site, not a museum. For visitors, the draw is the historic gatehouse, the factory tours and an off-the-beaten-path neighbourhood.
What it makes today
The complex spans several kilometres along Stachek Prospekt. Core products: tractors (Petersburg Tractor Plant), gas turbines, metallurgical equipment. During the Siege of Leningrad the factory built KV tanks; memorials on the grounds preserve that history.

Factory tours
Tours run for organized groups and include active workshops with a guide. Register through the plant's website or a local operator specializing in industrial tourism. Schedule varies; passport required, minimum age usually 14.

The neighbourhood
Kirovsky Zavod metro station (red line, 15–20 min from centre) has a grand Stalinist vestibule. Nearby: Narva Triumphal Gate (10-minute walk), Yekaterinhof Park by the Gulf, and Constructivist buildings from the 1930s.
Lunch: canteens along Stachek Prospekt — cheaper than anything on Nevsky.
Who should skip it
Anyone expecting a polished museum experience: this is a working factory. Children under 14 (not admitted on tours). Anyone put off by industrial areas.
Good to know
Before you go, confirm the tour date and entry rules with the organiser by phone or email, because access to an operating industrial site can change at short notice. Bring your passport or another photo ID, wear closed flat shoes and long trousers, and expect uneven surfaces and stairs. Photography inside workshops may be restricted, so ask your guide first. Combine the visit with the Narva Triumphal Gate and a late lunch nearby, and allow about two to three hours in total.
